Argentine Police Raids 'Aquarium' Park Over Pollution Allegations

December 17 (NA) -- Personnel from the Argentine Federal Police (PFA) carried out a raid this Wednesday at the facilities of the marine park 'Aquarium' in this city, as part of an investigation into alleged contamination in the discharge network, as well as in the Argentine Sea. The case began after a complaint was received in the Initial Attention Area and then referred to the Investigation and Litigation of Simple Cases Unit of the Mar del Plata Federal Prosecutor's Office, headed by Prosecutor General Daniel Eduardo Adler. Consequently, PFA personnel carried out the procedure today at the 'Aquarium' park, located in the Punta Mogotes area, with the aim of taking samples from the detected discharges and determining a possible violation of Law 24.051 on Hazardous Wastes. The raid, requested by the Mar del Plata Guarantees Court No. 1, also included personnel from Sanitary Works State Society (Mar del Plata headquarters) and the Buenos Aires Provincial Water Authority, to verify the existence of polluting discharges. In the investigation, both the Federal Operational Unit Division (DUOF) and the Environmental Crimes Division (both PFA dependencies) carried out various measures ordered by the prosecutor's office. Based on this, and as reported by the Noticias Argentinas agency, connections to the Sanitary Works collector and the Argentine Sea were detected, which could dangerously contaminate water, health, and the environment in general. This liquid would contain organic matter and other compounds to be determined, resulting from the activities carried out on the premises.
